Canvas is ringing in the new year by making a change to how they support Portfolios. If you have previously used Canvas Portfolio tools like Portfolium, or plan to use portfolios in your teaching in 2026, here is what you need to know.
Say goodbye to Portfolium and legacy ePortfolios in Canvas
Portfolium and legacy ePortfolios will be switched off by Instructure globally on 30 June 2026. As a result, UTS will no longer support Portfolium from 31 December 2025.
Users with existing Portfolium accounts will retain access to their personal profiles and can export project files until 30 June 2026. You can export project files by logging into your Portfolium account via portfolium.uts.edu.au, selecting a project and then clicking the download button.
Say hello to new Canvas Portfolios
In the pipeline is a brand new Canvas Portfolio tool which, following successful technical and user experience testing, will be available to UTS staff and students. The new Canvas Portfolios intend to support managing your learning artefacts in the following 2 ways:
- A student-led Showcase portfolio – to help students reflect on their own learning
- An instructor-led Evaluation portfolio – for academics to assess student learning
Further detail about the new Canvas Portfolios will be made available in early 2026. In the meantime, take a look at the new portfolio types and consider how you can use them to support your learning or teaching:
- How do I create Portfolios as an instructor? (Evaluation)
- How do I use Portfolios as a student? (Showcase)
