The Global and Digital Growth program responds to global and national challenges such as geopolitical tensions and shifting international student regulations. The initiative is Australia’s first. It reflects UTS’ commitment to innovation in education, as well as aligning with the University’s strategic priority of being a ‘connected and engaged university’.

A milestone for an innovative initiative

The current UTS Online Chinese-language suite includes Master of Technology Innovation and Master of Business Analytics, and their nested courses, delivered entirely in Mandarin Chinese. These initial courses target the needs of working professionals who want to study in Mandarin and who are facing mobility barriers, as supported by the program’s online offshore delivery model.

Since the launch last year, over 80 students have enrolled. We are delighted to soon be celebrating a milestone, with students from the first intake (July 2025) due to complete their Graduate Certificate qualifications in March.

Student feedback

The academic performance of the students so far has been pleasing. Based on the three completed study periods, the cohort has achieved a pass rate of 98%.

Student feedback is also positive. Class representatives have commented that UTS’ approach to learning and teaching is very different from what they were used to, but the Online Learning Instructors have provided extensive support. There is also a healthy learning culture where students from different professional backgrounds would help each other via self-organised WeChat groups.

Aggregate data from July 2025 to February 2026: 2 courses, 82 students, 352 subject enrolments, 97% retention, 98% pass rate, 4.62 overall satisfaction

Just the beginning

As we prepare to welcome our first group of graduates (though most will go on to complete their masters), the Education Portfolio is thankful to our external partner, CinLearn Education, and the various teams within UTS for the high-quality student experience we have collectively created.
