Regardless of our role at UTS, enhancing our student’s success is at the centre of what we do. This is reflected in how we connect to the Student Experience Framework as we work towards becoming a truly student-centred university. It shows in the work we do, from improving student onboarding and standardising protocols for deadlines and penalties, to making incremental learning design improvements and having the right data to understand our students’ needs in class.
Staying on track through student survey data
A core way of knowing we are successful in our efforts – or what areas we need to work harder in – is through hearing from the students themselves. The Early Feedback Survey (EFS) and Student Feedback Survey (SFS) are used to gather information about student experiences at UTS, which can help inform subject enhancements.
Another important way of understanding the student experience is the Student Experience Survey (SES), which more broadly helps higher education institutions and government understand what needs to improve in which areas.
SES invitations
More than 27,000 current first and final year UTS students have been selected to participate in the survey. They will receive an invitation from late July to complete the online SES questionnaire.
The questionnaire content focuses on five key areas:
- learner engagement
- teaching quality
- student support
- learning resources
- skills development
The SES will be open until the end of August. All responses are confidential and no personal information will be linked to students’ responses.
Spread the word!
As educators, we have an important role to play in promoting the SES to raise awareness of the survey amongst our students. We are committed to hearing students’ voices, and the SES is an important opportunity to do that, along with the benchmarking opportunity it provides to us as a university. Your support of the survey will be helpful in generating more reliable and comprehensive information from a greater number of students.
Where possible, communicate its importance to the students who receive an invitation to participate. More information about the SES can be found on the QILT website.
