Assessment in higher education is at a turning point. As generative AI becomes embedded in learning and professional practice, universities face a dual challenge: how do we confidently demonstrate student achievement while also preparing students to engage ethically and critically with AI?

In this opening seminar of the UTS Assessment Design and Integrity Series, Dr Amanda Lizier and colleagues from the Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Unit will introduce the Mosaic Approach, UTS’s whole-of-course framework for assessment integrity.

The seminar will explore the scholarly foundations of the approach, its alignment with UTS policy and curriculum transformation initiatives, and how course teams can design assessment patterns that balance assurance of learning, academic integrity, student learning, and sustainable workloads.

This session is relevant to all UTS staff, particularly academics, course directors, subject coordinators, educational designers, and professional staff involved in curriculum and assessment. Whether you are actively redesigning assessments, considering the implications of AI for learning, or simply interested in emerging approaches to assessment integrity, this seminar will provide practical insights and opportunities for discussion.

Format: Hybrid seminar (30 min presentation + 30 min Q&A)

Additional discussion: Attendees who join from the Education Hub are invited to remain after the formal session for an informal 30-minute discussion and networking opportunity.

Join us for the first conversation in this new seminar series as we explore how assessment integrity can be achieved through thoughtful course design rather than detection, creating a richer and more trustworthy picture of student learning.
