Embedding low-tech and high-tech approaches into Neuroanatomy Education: A Practical Showcase
Join Dr Dray for an interactive session exploring how both low-tech and high-tech approaches can be meaningfully embedded into neuroanatomy teaching and learning practices. This session will build on her recent presentations delivered to the UTS GenAI Community of Practice, and her interdisciplinary presentation to speech pathologists during a professional development event at Royal North Shore Hospital, highlighting hands-on strategies for integrating emerging technologies into curriculum design.
Drawing on examples from her own teaching, Julia will share insights on how low-tech approaches, including traditional didactic slides as well as creative approaches (including origami and body mapping) and high-tech approaches, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), can be integrated to deepen student engagement and understanding, scaffold complex content, redesign curriculum and support inclusive learning environments.
This session will showcase:
- Examples of low-tech and high-tech tool integration used to support neuroanatomy teaching and learning.
- Examples of student activities and feedback.
- Reflections on the pedagogical impact of immersive technologies.
- Practical tips for educators looking to trial AR/VR in their own subjects, including what has or hasn’t worked well so far.
Whether you’re curious about starting small or scaling up, this showcase offers actionable insights and inspiration for transforming anatomy education through immersive technologies, inviting educators to explore how creative, traditional and emerging tools can all enrich curriculum design and enhance learning experiences in health and science disciplines.
