FFYE forum:  Student Transition – Future Challenges and Celebrating Success 

Please join us for an engaging forum exploring both the future of student transition in this era of rapid change, and the successes that have shaped our practice of the past 15 years. Featuring two inspiring speakers, Professor Danny Lui (USyd) and Associate Professor Amanda White (UTS), the forum will be presented in two complementary sessions that celebrate our shared commitment to students’ transition and success into and through university and out to their future work and lives.   

Looking Forward: Preparing Students for Success in a Rapidly Changing World 

In this first session, Professor Danny Liu, Professor of Education and Technology at the University of Sydney and key contributor to the Castlereagh statement, will explore contemporary challenges and opportunities in student transition and success in the age of artificial intelligence. Using the STARS framework (Students, Transition, Achievement, Retention and Success), Danny will encourage us to reflect on what it means to be an educated human in a rapidly evolving world and how we can best align graduate capabilities with the needs of society and the future workforce. 

 The session will also feature break out discussions and a student and staff panel, offering diverse perspectives on future graduate success, the practices already making a difference, and where we can continue to innovate and grow. 

Looking Back: Celebrating Our Success 

Our second session provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the First Year Experience (FYE) Program (2011-2018) and the First and Further Year Experience (FFYE) program (2019-2026). 

Associate Professor Amanda White will share reflections on the impact of the FYE/FFYE programs on her own professional journey and their contribution to student success and sector recognition.  Members of our FFYE community will be invited to share stories, highlights, and memories as we celebrate the many people, initiatives, and achievements that have shaped the program over the years. As the FFYE program evolves alongside changing OSI roles, this forum also offers an opportunity to consider its future and the exciting possibilities ahead.

A key focus of the afternoon will be the opportunity to meet colleagues and students, exchange ideas, share practices, and strengthen our community of educators and learning support professionals committed to student success.
