Please join us for an on-campus forum – the last of the year – to hear about innovations and next steps in assessment in the era of GenAI. As Michael Rowling, Professor of Computing Technologies at RMIT University and President of ASCILITE, stated in his recent Needed Now in Learning and Teaching post that disruptive technology such as Gen AI follows a familiar cyclic pattern: hype, panic, adaptation, and integration.
In 2025, ten FFYE grants explored the stages of adaptation and integration of GenAI in subject assessment, with each project aiming to address one of the two questions raised in the 2024 UTS response to TEQSA:
- How can we be confident that our students are graduating with the skills and knowledge that we claim they have, ie that students have developed these skills and knowledge through the course and the CILOs have been assured?
- How can we prepare our students to engage ethically and critically in a world where GenAI is increasingly integrated into professional and personal life?
In this forum, we’ll hear what has been learned from these projects, framed in the context of current insights into GenAI in higher education. The forum will begin with a keynote from Jan McLean on her recent work with TEQSA and research on Student Voice on the use of GenAI. The ten FFYE grant holders will outline their challenges and achievements, and we’ll dive deeper into those conversations with three rounds of discussion. The forum will conclude with a staff and student panel on learnings and further questions for the future.
Afternoon tea will be provided to build further networks and collaborations, or just meet academics, professional staff and students from across UTS.
Bookings are essential (for catering and planning). All staff and students are very welcome. Once you have booked, you will receive an email on the room details. Please come from 2pm onwards to socialise before the 2.30 start of the forum.
